Yashar Ahmadian
Yashar is a University Lecturer in Computational Neuroscience at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. After obtaining his Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics, he has been doing research in computational and theoretical neuroscience, starting with postdocs in the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at Columbia University, working with Liam Paninksi and Ken Miller. Afterwards, he started his own group at the University of Oregon, before moving to CBL at Cambridge. Yashar’s main interest is in understanding the dynamics of neural activity and learning in recurrent neural circuits, at both biological and computational levels. Please get in touch if you are highly motivated to work in this area!
Monika Jozsa
Monika joined Yashar Ahmadian’s lab as a postdoctoral researcher in 2023 in a collaborative project with Zoe Kourtzi. She previously was a postdoctoral researcher at Timothy O’Leary’s lab and held a short term lecturer position at the University of Cambridge. She received her MSc and BSc in Applied Mathematics in Budapest, Hungary, and she conducted her doctoral studies in system indentification in Groningen, the Netherlands. Her current work focuses on using AI-inspired modeling to reveal circuit mechanisms and computational principles of visual recognition processes.
Edward Young
Edward completed an MMath degree at the University of Cambridge before joining the CBL lab in 2021 under Dr Ahmadian. He is currently investigating normative and statistical explanations for adaptation phenomena, and potential links with efficient coding theory. Outside of neuroscience and mathematics, Edward runs the philosophy discussion group Luminomelia Cambridge, which focuses on philosophy of science and mind.
Please reach out if you are interested in collaborating or discussing research!
